Assam floods impact Kaziranga, water enters into 61 camps

Rising water levels have affected over a quarter of the 233 forest camps at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam, according to an official report released on Monday. The report indicates that a total of 61 forest camps across Kaziranga, including 22 in the Agoratoli range, 10 in the Kaziranga range, eight in the Bagori range, five in the Burhapahar range, six in Bokakhat, and 10 in Biswanath Wildlife Division, are currently submerged.

According to an official report, a total of 61 forest camps across Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve are submerged, including 22 in the Agoratoli range, 10 in Kaziranga, eight in Bagori, five in the Burhapahar range, six in Bokakhat, and 10 in the Biswanath Wildlife Division. The flooding of this wildlife habitat has led to the migration of animals, crossing National Highway-715 towards the southern region in East Karbi Anglong district in search of higher ground, as reported by PTI.

No animal deaths from the floods or accidents while crossing the highway have been recorded so far.

On Sunday, the Golaghat district administration issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CRPC to protect the animals crossing NH-715.
